New Bird & Bat Boxes for the Walter Recreation Ground and Circle Hill, Crowthorne – March 2017

As part of their Community Action programme, a group of year 11 Wellington College students created a set of bird and bat boxes for the Walter Recreation Ground and Circle Hill woodland in Crowthorne.

The project came about when Councillor Gail Robertson, a Trustee of the Walter Recreation Ground Charity, asked the college students for their help in producing some new homes for local wildlife and the college was only too happy to help.

The students worked with staff in both teaching and gardening departments to build the boxes, and the project saw additional bird and bat boxes being built for the college site also. The students said “We all really enjoyed making these boxes and we hope that they will enhance bird life in the environment”.

On behalf of the Trustees of the Walter Recreation Ground Charity, Cllr Gail Robertson thanked the students for all their hard work and enthusiasm in making such superb bird and bat boxes.

Cllr Robertson said “I am sure the birds and bats cannot wait to start nesting in the comfort of their new homes!  Thank you once again for your enthusiasm and terrific effort”.
