Eastern Gateway section of the South Wokingham Distributor Road (SWDR) project

We would like to take this opportunity to notify you of two separate short periods of overnight works near you, as part of our main construction programme.

From 8pm on Monday, 16th November 2020 to 6am on Saturday, 21st November 2020

From 8pm on Monday, 30th November 2020 to 6am on Thursday, 3rd December 2020

These two short overnight periods are to enable us to carry out utility diversion works which include installing high voltage underground cabling, under Condition 19 of the Planning Permission (172934), between the rail crossing and Locks Farm on Waterloo Road, as part of our Eastern Gateway project.

For these further works to be carried out, a full road closure is required and a diversion route, attached, is in place. Access to Britton’s Farm and Lock Farms will be maintained at all times, as will access to the Emergency Services.

Utility diversions covers all works associated with the required diversion of the existing 33kV overhead line which is to be diverted to an underground duct route across the project footprint. The list of scheduled activities include: carriageway saw-cutting, mechanical and suction excavation, trench support, protection of adjacent existing utilities, end of shift carriageway reinstatement, ducts installation, trench backfill and final carriageway reinstatement.

The Eastern Gateway project, which is scheduled to open in 2022, is a vital part of the SWDR. It will not only provide improved access to planned new housing within the South Wokingham strategic development location but will also help to reduce congestion within the surrounding area by providing a new railway bridge, replacing the current Waterloo Road level crossing. It will also ensure a high- quality corridor for pedestrians, cyclists and public transport, which currently does not exist.

We apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused and should you have any queries or concerns please contact Balfour Beatty on 0800 121 4444 or at SWDR@balfourbeatty.com specifying “Eastern Gateway” in the subject line where you can also request to be signed up to receive our regular e-project updates.
