Wokingham Borough Council’s new recycling bags are expected to be delivered to residents in January 2021. These new, sealable recycling bags are needed as a result of changes to the world recycling markets. Countries that accept waste for processing no longer want wet cardboard and paper as it makes it harder to sort.

These weighted, waterproof bags will keep paper and card waste dry, meaning it can be sold as a re-usable product.

In the meantime, council leader John Halsall has asked residents to be extra vigilant in keeping paper and card covered – only putting it out on the morning of collection, and stacking bin bags on top of the recycling boxes to protect the content from rain and damp.
