Wokingham Borough News|

The introduction of food waste recycling in 2019 has saved more than £1million in disposal costs.

Each tonne of food waste recycled saves us about £100 compared to getting rid of it. More than 11,000 tonnes of food waste have been recycled thanks to Wokingham borough residents since April 2019.

But it’s not all good news. About 25 per cent of waste in residents’ blue bags is food waste even though it is really easy and convenient to recycle it instead.

Even though the majority do take part, we’re renewing our urge to residents to take up food waste recycling. Every time food goes in blue bags it means you’ve paid twice, once for the food and again to get it disposed by us.
